A great social event and fundraising evening!

Hi All,

Please can you check and make yourselves available to attend a great social evening at the Bowls club with musical entertainment on September 14th.

As well as providing an ideal opportunity for beers with some great running mates we will also be holding a raffle and auction and utilising the entry ticket price of £5.00 each to assist with the purchase of a new wheelchair for young Tia Miller.

Tia is growing out of her current wheelchair, but the wheelchair service takes a long time to assess children and provide new equipment. Tia is a 6 year old little girl (7 in September) who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The impact that this has on her means that she cannot walk, stand or sit without support.

More details of this event will follow shortly.

The Rack Raid - Sunday 2nd June

Latest Posts Send feedback »

Sunday 2nd June is the Rack Raid. Organised by Fairwater Runners the Rack Raid is a relay style race which involves over 100 miles covered in 13 stages of varying distances. The race begins at Grosmont Castle at around 7:30am and finishes at Castell-Y-Bwch (in the pub) at around 7:00pm. The shortest stage is 5.3 miles (Grosmont Castle to Skenfrith Castle) and the longest stage is 13.8 miles (Usk to Tintern Abbey).

This is a fabulous event and one that we have always thoroughly enjoyed. You can join us at the start and follow the whole event or just support a stage or two.  This year Islwyn will be entering two teams at the event so we will be looking for 26 runners and as many reserves and supporters as we can possibly manage.

The event is open to all Islwyn members the only prerequisites are enthusiasm and a team focus. If you are interested in participating please let me know by replying to this link or by contacting me via facebook or e-mail jondavies@gmx.co.uk

The Final Gwent Leisure League X-country - The Big Showdown)

Latest Posts 580 feedbacks »

If you haven’t heard where have you been? - THIS SUNDAY IS THE LAST X-COUNTRY EVENT OF THE LEISURE LEAGUE SERIES AND THE MEN ARE CURRENTLY IN FIRST POSITION!

The event takes place in Rogerstone and is the home event for Lliswerry Runners. Our friends at Lliswerry are our nearest rivals and currently trail us by just the one point, however they are in the ascendancy having already beaten us in many of the races and this being their race.

For us to win we need a really strong turn-out and not just the faster runners but also all who can make it. The larger our numbers the better as because, along with scoring well ourselves, we can also adversely affect the scoring potential of the other teams – more specifically we can get in front of as many of our dear friends at Lliswerry as possible (sorry Howard!).

So if you can be there please do because as our chairman has been very keen to point out – YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!

Meeting at 9.45am at Pontllanfraith leisure centre for lift sharing or at Rogerstone Primary School in time for an 11.00am race start. Directions - come off the Risca by-pass on the slip road straight after the Morrison's roundabout. Drive up to the roundabout and take the 2nd exit. Turn 1st left and you're there.

Supporting runners rota

Latest Posts 783 feedbacks »

Hi All,

Just a quick word to say how well the supporting runners rota has been working - a great benefit to the club and very much appreciated by all those who have been supported. To develop this further it has been suggested that we rota 2 supporting runners for each club night so that we can simultaneously support the steady and intermediate groups, particularly when both groups are running different distances or routes. What are your thoughts on this? Are there any additional runners who are happy to be included on the rota (currently we are asking supporting runners to back mark one run every 6 weeks)

Also I would like to mention that the runners at the front of the intermediate group are progressing during their runs at a pace equivalent to the back end of the faster group and I think it would be of great benefit to periodically run with this other group. Contrary to popular belief this faster group does not consist of just 'flyers', they regroup every couple of miles (just like all other groups) so no-one gets left behind and they very much welcome the company of others - they do not wish to be exclusive!

Reminder - the supporting runner this Tuesday is Chris Lloyd and on Thursday it is Claire Barnett. See you there!

Mike has been out cutting back the brambles and taking pictures of the mud puddles, Glyn is sending out e-mails calling on the troops and hoards of IRC members are getting their vests ready for the highlight of the winter running season - the IRC Gwent Leisure Centre League X-Country is this Sunday!!!!!

If you can run, please do - If you are not able to run but can attend, please marshal. Everybody who can be at Pontllanfraith council offices on Sunday morning, please do so. It promises to be a really good race and if we have a large turn-out we can win!

We had a fabulous amount of runners at Bryn Bach Park and we did really well, but I am sure you will agree we can do even better :)
