Hi all, if you are part of this years Rack Raid, please read the following information pack from the event organisers. Please also note that all runners and reserves need to be current members of IRC.

Hi All,

Firstly let me thank everyone in advance for turning Cwmbran white and black on Tuesday night - let's show these other clubs that we are a huge threat. As previously stated the Gwent leisure league series is open to all IRC runners and the more of us there - the better. Each race is between 5-6 miles and we are leaving Pontllanfraith at 6:15 on Tuesday for anyone who needs a lift . Please wear your club vest/shirt (if you have one) and, if necessary, you can collect your race number from Mike Heare on the night.

Regarding the Rack Raid, there has been an over-whelming response, which goes to demonstrate the huge strength of our membership at the moment - Thank you all very much. This large response does pose a dilemma - 26 race places and 42 runners! It is a shame that we are not in a position to run 3 teams but I have been reliably informed that due to injuries and/or other commitments our numbers will fall significantly as the event nears. Even so I fear that there may be a few people expressing an interest in the event who may not get a run out. With this in mind selection will be a difficult process, however anyone who finds themselves in the position of not running should rest assured that they will be first on the team sheet for the next event! Teams will be announced next week.

Finally let me say a great big thank you for all your wonderful comments following my acceptance of the mens captain's role. I hope that I can do it justice and will endeavour to do my best. For me IRC has always been an all-inclusive, friendly place to run, somewhere that regardless of my form, any injuries or pace I can always find someone to run with and get some great support/advice. Also from a selfish point of view, recently my enthusiasm has been waivering a little and I think that this new active role in the club will also greatly benefit me and my running.

All the best,
Jonathan

Gwent Leisure League Road Race Series

Latest Posts Send feedback »

As you are no doubt aware the Gwent leisure league road race series is almost on us again. All the races cover a distance of between 5 to 6 miles and all races take place on a Tuesday evening so participation should not be a big problem for most.

Whilst I fully anticipate and accept that we will have members of IRC flying into the top 20 and beyond it is also very important that we have a full representation at all levels throughout the field of runners – the more the better.

It is worth noting that adversely affecting the scoring potential of the other teams is as legitimate a tactic as scoring yourself – everyone counts! And some of our best scoring events have been the home events when our representation has been very high.

So let’s show the other teams what we can do, turn up in force, with numbers and turn the leisure league white and black!

If you haven’t already done so, note the dates, request your leisure league number from Mike and make yourself available. Come on guys! IRC needs you.

Leisure league series starts on Tuesday May 1st and many of us will be meeting and leaving from our leisure centre that evening so lift sharing is available.

Rack Raid 2012

This year’s Rack Raid takes place on Sunday 27th May and (when Glyn asked) interest was sufficiently high that Islwyn Running Club has entered two teams.

For those of you who may not know it is organised by Fairwater Runners and is a 13 stage relay event which will be attended this year by 22 teams (including ours).

The stages are all run between Ruins and Castle Keeps, hence the name, and they range in length from 5.3 to 13.8 miles, therefore offering participation opportunity within most runners' ability.

The route and format remains unchanged, the event starts at 7.30am at GROSMONT CASTLE and culminates in CASTELL-Y-BWCH at approximately 6.45pm covering a total distance between the thirteen legs of 102 miles!

As well as 13 runners for each team we will also require a number of runners who are prepared to put themselves forward as reserves to cover injuries and/or any other eventualities. And, as always, your team support in any capacity is very welcome.

Stage 1 - Grosmont Castle to Skenfrith Castle - 5.3 Miles
- Start Time: 7.30am

Stage 2 - Skenfrith Castle to White Castle - 7.1 Miles
- Start Time: 8.06am

Stage 3 - White Castle to Abergavenny - 8.0 Miles
- Start Time: 8.52am

Stage 4 - Abergavenny to Halfway  - 8.2 Miles
- Start Time: 9.44am

Stage 5 - Halfway to Monmouth - 7.3 Miles
- Start Time: 10.38am

Stage 6 - Monmouth to Raglan - 12.6 Miles
- Start Time: 11.26am

Stage 7 - Raglan to Usk  - 5.7 Miles
- Start Time: 12.43pm

Stage 8 - Usk to Tintern Abbey - 13.8 Miles
- Start Time: 1.20pm

Stage 9 - Tintern Abbey to Chepstow Castle - 10.5 Miles
- Start Time: 2.50pm

Stage 10 - Chepstow Castle to Caldicot Castle - 6.0 Miles
- Start Time: 3.59pm

Stage 11 - Caldicot Castle to Penhow - 5.7 Miles
- Start Time: 4.38pm

Stage 12 - Penhow to Caerleon Amphitheatre  - 6.6 Miles
- Start Time: 5.16pm

Stage 13 - Caerleon Amphtheatre to Castell-Y-Bwch  - 5.5 Miles
- Start Time: 6.04pm

The presentation will take place as soon as possible after the last runner has finished, either in the pub or outside depending on the weather!

Please reaffirm your interest in this event to me or any of the club officials at your earliest convenience and if you have any specific requirements which you would also need to be considered please let us know.
